Simple and Healthy Vegan Shopping List!

Vegan shopping, to me, seemed very simple at first. All I have to do is buy some fruits and veggies right? Wrong! The world of vegan foods is endless. I didn’t even know just how many fruits and vegetables one farmer’s market could contain! So to help all of you with your shopping adventures so you can start enjoying shopping I am going to provide you with 10 of the most essential vegan foods!

Bananas are by far my favorite fruit. The past few weeks I have actually been eating two bananas every single day! Bananas are very cheap, healthy, energizing, and easy to take with everywhere you on your busiest of days!

Nut Butter!

Nut Butter is probably my favorite food group of all time. I usually go with the simple peanut butter but, I have had some wonderful life-changing almond and cashew butter in my lifetime! These contain essential fatty acids that will help you absorb all the delicious nutrients from your fruits and veggies.

Nut milk!

Nut milk is great to help thicken up your recipes or help soothe hunger between meals! I don’t advocate for soy milk as soy is a leader in deforestation so I avoid it as much as I can! Nut milk is the way to go, my favorite is almond milk. Cashew milk is a bit sweeter if you enjoy that part of your milk

Grains for me specifically include white rice, oatmeal, and quinoa. Those are my three favorites because they are easy for me to digest while keeping me full between meals. These grains will keep you feeling full for a long period of time without bloating you too much. Grains are different for everyone so experiment between white rice, brown rice, and quinoa to see what your body likes the most!

Beans are great vegan sources of protein! They contain essential amino acids to aid in muscle function and growth. My personal favorites are lentils, garbanzo beans, and black beans, I usually pair lentils and quinoa, then black beans with rice.

Yes, greens is a broad category but there are some specifics you should choose to maximize your nutrient absorption. The best greens for your vegan shopping list would be spinach, broccoli, and romaine lettuce. You don’t need all of them but there are many things you can do with all of them so you don’t get bored!

Carrots are an incredible vegetable to include in your daily diet. They contain lots of vitamin A and biotin to help your vision, hair, and nails stay in tip-top shape! You can steam them, bake them, or eat them raw on the go!

Personally, I wouldn’t touch white potatoes with a ten-foot pole. While I may exaggerate that a bit I do prefer sweet potatoes because they digest better for me and taste better. However, both are great for you in moderation!

Berries are a close second to bananas in my favorite fruit race! They contain antioxidants which help reduce inflammation. For this reason I eat around a cup of berries after every workout! (Usually in my overnight oats!)

Chia Seeds

Chia seeds, chia seeds, chia seeds! These are an incredible superfood that i could go on about for hours. They contain omega 3 fatty acids, fiber, calcium, iron, and antioxidants. Chia seeds raise your good cholesterol levels which helps promote a healthy and happy heart, so protect that thing with chia seeds!

This is my essential vegan shopping items that you should always have in your pantry! So, go ahead and copy this list into your phone (not on paper, reduce your waste!), head to the store, and grab these delicious and nutritious foods!
